The CBO Predictions Also, there was a little back and forth on the accuracy of the Congressional Budget Office predictions in a previous post. Here are the forecasts by the CBO from 2003: http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=4032&type=0&sequence=1. Note that that is not some right-wing extremist, racist, bigoted, homophobe Teabagger website, but the actual CBO government website. I call your attention to "The Budget Outlook Under CBO's Adjusted Baseline". Yes, there are caveats galore, but that's sort of the point, isn't it? Now tell me again how the "health care overhaul" is going to reduce the deficit according to the CBO. Enjoy. |

Sweet Sixteen viewing
I'm taking a quick trip to SF next weekend (am from Vancouver), which happens to coincide with the Sweet Sixteen. My friend & I want to watch the St Mary's-Baylor game on Friday the 26th at a cool place. And so, I come to you looking for recommendations! We're not really picky, as long as the atmosphere is lively & it serves more than just beer (we're wine fiends). Cool decor & good food are pluses. It doesn't have to be a "sports bar," and it doesn't have to be dirt cheap. We're staying near Battery & Sacramento, but are easy on location. We are going to the Neon Indian show at Mezzanine later that night, so if there's anywhere near there that would be cool, but not necessary. Thanks all! |

is feeding Odessa lunchmeat as a treat okay?
she has an obsession with ham, she really loves it and i only give it to her as a treat (a couple of small pieces every couple of days or so)lunchmeat ham or cooked ham, either she loves a lot--so here's my question: my mother says im contributing to my cat having less life and high chance of developing heart disease.'' she's very active running around the house many hours a day, playing with that silly bergan track toy, and is only 9 pounds. so as a treat, would ham be okay? Rock Plants @ Farmer's Market
There was a vendor at the farmer's market several months back selling live little plants that were planted in chunks of rocks. She gave me a card but...alas...I lost it. Anyone know who this particular merchant was? |

looking for a large parking lot in North Central for fundraiser
My friend is walking in the Race For the Cure this year, and we plan to have a large used women's clothing sale as a fundraiser, ideally on May 15. We could do this from one of our houses, but it could be a much bigger event, and generate that much more awareness, if it took place in a commercial area with a large parking lot (that usually was not fully utilized), with good road frontage, in a place in North Central that was accessible to the bus and/or train. I've already thought of 5555 N Lamar, Northcross Mall and the Alamo and have contacted their property management companies, but if anyone knows of another good place, I'd appreciate hearing about it. I'm already taking donations of clean women's clothing, but I'd rather have a site nailed down before I advertise it properly. If you have clothes you wish to donate, let me know that, too. :) Much love if they were on hangers, but clean is good! |

Sickish kitty and complications
Hi everyone. I've got a very sweet 9 year old black and white cat named Bandit. He's been off his feed today and yesterday, and he keeps dry heaving, but no vomit or diarrhea, and his gums are a nice pink. He's a bit more listless than he normally is, but not extremely so. Normally I'd make a point of taking him to our vet on Monday, but I'm going back to college 500 miles away tomorrow and my dad works twelve hours a day Monday through Wednesday, so the earliest he could take him into the vet would be Thursday. Should I be really worried? It might just be a change of seasons thing (hell, I'm fighting a cold from it). Bandit's never been sick before so this is really strange and frustrating for me. |

Flea treatments Hey guys~ My cat Eric seems to really hate the topical flea treatment. I have been using Advantage every month since i have had him. He has always reacted quite strongly to the treatment, but after not seeing any skin irritation, i think it must just be the smell and he would get used to it....this hasnt happened. In the last few months he has been having even stronger reactions to it. Nothing noticable on the skin, like a skin irritation. But i still reckon its more of the smell of it. 2 mths ago he gagged after i put the flea treatment on him, and this month after i put the treatment on my other cat, he could smell it on my hands and ran off and hides for a good while. That was yesterday, today he is reacting like i have already put the treatment on him, by flinching or running if i touch the back of his neck. Im planning to give another brand a go. Either Revolution or Frontline. Anyone have any preferences?? does one seem to have a less strong smell then the other? and do you think it might be worth talking to my vet about tablets? Ive never seen them before now, and i dont even know what brands are available in Australia.....so any advice there is welcomed too. He wont take a flea bath, that i am sure of....and i know the dangers of flea collars and wont go near them with a 10ft pole. At the moment im not quite sure what to do. Thanks for any advice you guys can give me |

Small annoyances
I'm running a old G4 iMac with 768MB RAM and OS 10.5.8. For several weeks now, I have been having to deal with somewhat random, yet frustrating behavior. What's been happening is that some programs will hang when starting up or when shutting down, and on rare occasions crash. The most likely to have problems is iTunes 9. And when I'm all done, the computer will hang on shutdown. The Dock and Menu bar will go away and I'm left with the desktop screen until I give in and turn it off by holding down the power button. The problems started right after I used Drive Genius 2 to defrag the main hard drive which was quite full and fragemnted at the time. I've reinstalled iTunes with no change in behavior, and I also reinstalled the 10.5.8 combo update with no change, so I feel like I'm left with two options and and hoping for suggestions on which one may be best, or maybe another option that I haven't thought of. Should I restore the OS from my Time Machine backups that were made before the defragmenting, or reinstall the OS altogether? Or is there some other solution that might work that is outside my personal Mac trouble-shooting experience? Current Mood: annoyed |

Hello! All of a sudden, Safari and iPhoto will not longer work for me, and whenever I go to Picnik on Firefox, it too crashes. I don't know what to do. I'm not computer savvy at all (I use it to edit photos and save them, seriously). I've read about Firefox bugs, and it seems to be something along those lines. Help? |
